The Spirit of Bead Embroidery
The Challenge of Completing the Projects in Heidi's " Spirit of Bead Embroidery"

Friday, April 24, 2015

Talk about slacking.......

I haven't given up on completing the entire " Spirit of Bead Embroidery " pieces.  Just so many beading projects going on and if you follow my blog you will see that I've moved in the meantime and I've been preparing my Battle of the Beadsmith 2015.

So many beautiful Heidi designs out there ...... so much beauty.  I tried again to be one of the participants to the Colorado Bead Retreat.  There were random numbers issued for six spaces.  I was not so fortunate on the draw.  I know without a shadow of a doubt that I will get to meet Heidi one day.  Now that my older son is living in Denver, CO - I just might be lucky.

In To the Forest Blog Hop Reveal " January 11th "

As all know, I have never missed a Blog Hop Reveal........I will be unable to Reveal today as my piece is not
yet complete after enduring one of " Life's little Wrenches " that one must experience.  It is call " Flood".  My first experience with " The Flood".  As I live in a Condominium, my neighbor's plumbing broke inside the wall from their hose bib and the rest is history to include the wood flooring, drywall, etc., etc.  At least the Beads are safe.  A small hint:  She is Bead Embroidery " with the lovely little treasures from our Blog Hop creator
Lisa Lodge of Pine Ridge Treasures.......

I will post a notice on Facebook when the piece is complete.  Please visit the other lovely artists that have
beautiful items of " Into The Forest " themes and my thanks to Lisa for putting together a wonderful theme.  It
took " Brain Power " to use the items she selected to visualize my " Into the Forest ".

Let's Bring this Blog Up To Date........

                                             The Heidi Challenge

For those of you that have followed " Catherines Musings " I have given myself a Challenge to complete each project in Heidi Kummili's " Spririt of Bead Embroidery ".  And even though they might not be an exact match, they will be my interpretation of Heidi's delightful projects.

I'll be posting the previous posts from Catherine's Musings so you can follow along with the new progress.
At first I had stated I could finish the projects in a one year period.  Very grandeous of me.  Life does get in the way of an adventure such as this.  So I have moved my trial challenge to two years and if it takes longer since I am adding a few projects of Heidi's that were posted in the February 2013 Bead and Button magazine.  It will be an enchanting adventure in my first love of Bead Embroidery.

Why Heidi? Why not? I find her work organic, spiritual, colorful and stimulating and so very close to my
heart when I envision my ideal piece of jewelry.  It is that Native DNA that is very attuned to Heidi's

While starting Cabachon making at the St. Lucie Rock and Gem, I only saw cabachons that would fit into
projects I had envisioned for the Heidi projects.  But the organic accomplishment of cutting my own Cabachons to be incorporated into these projects is very stimulating.  And starting Lampworking this weekend will be another accomplishment in this journey.

I was fortunate enough to be the successfull bidder during the " Beading for a Cure " for Colon Rectal Cancer for a Heidi neck piece.  Needless to say, it holds a special place in my Jewelry Display case.

So to bring you up to speed on my personal challenge, just follow along from these posts

The Spirit of Bead Embroidery by Heidi Kummili
See....I'm just blogging down that hit list.... and then of course the one book we have been waiting for as
Bead Embroider's is " The Spirit of Bead Embroidery by Heidi Kummili..... kind of like that Ghostbusters moment " I GOT ONE ".  I cannot wait to sit and just enjoy.  Rolanda Patterson, a friend that sews the dolls forms in Beaded Art Dolls and we have alot together in Beaddreamz is also in Heidi's book.

Thank you all for your encouraging words. Just having a group for beaded dolls spits on what I am about to share.
Heidi Kummli's new book, The Spirit of Bead Embroidery is out. If you look online at the table of contents, you will see a list of contributing artist for the gallery. Near the bottom of the list is MY name (squee).... My dear friend Carol Anne gave me a bit of wisdom when I missed the deadline due to personal issues when Heidi had contacted me requesting permission to put "Willow" in the gallery (after seeing her at Bead Dreams.)
Happy dance is an understatement....
Many, many thanks to you all and the one who gave me this gift.

Thank you Heidi.

Personal project over the next few months
Yes, it has been Beaddreamz and Beaded Art Dolls and pieces for this and that....but now that I only have the Teapot Bead Embroidery and finishing a few Bead Embroidery pieces I would like a new embroidery challenge.  I believe I would like to experience working my way through Heidi Kummili the Spirit of Bead Embroidery.  For just the pure joy of working through this book, I think this would be a great personal project for the year.

Spirit of Bead Embroidery-Reveal One
Reveal One is complete.  In Heidi Kummili " Spirit of Bead Embroidery ", I had challenged myself to complete Heidi's projects and a few examples this year in my own interpretation.  A " Julia and Julia " type of event with each Reveal being blogged as I progressed.

Reveal One is Heidi's " Owl Bracelet " with a few changes of my own based on the product I had on hand.  Of course " Laura Mears" Owl is the center piece of this enchanting bracelet.  I was able to acquire those lovely Natural Bugle Beads and I have already found numerous uses for them.  You will see a few other changes in my completion but I am very pleased with Project One.

You will find this project on pages 60-63 in the " Spirit of Bead Embroidery".

Reveal Two is on the board and it would not be possible without a wonderful piece prepared by Laura Mears ( how incredible is that )......  just a hint for those of you that have the book and the story that goes with it is just as wonderful.

The lovely porcelain artist Laura Mears made a custom Cocker Spaniel head for my next project based on " Pawley's Peace" which will become Brittany's Peace.

Currently in today's blog post I added the following notation on Reveal Two:

First, the Cabachon Class and I completed the 36mm Center Snowflake Obsidian  for the center piece of my Heidi Kummili " Pawley's Peace" which I am making in memory of Brittany Lynn.  I have my Laura Mears Black Cocker Spaniel piece and this lovely Snowflake Obsidian.  I now have four more to Cab along with Brittany's Tags and other items to add.

And finally, in my attempt to understand the construction techniques of " The Dream Box" on pages 72 through 75 I constructed a small box with a Tea Bag container preparing for a more elaborate Dream Box after Brittany's Peace".

I hope this had enticed you to follow along throughout the year....For me, once completing this challenge I expect great things and a new evolution in my embroidery over the next few years.
